Yesterday I walked by my mechanic's shop after he'd closed up and I noticed my car was parked outside and the convertible top was down, just like when I pulled in.

I mean, he probably forgot, and the weather's pretty dry, car's locked, and the whole shop is fenced in, but still it really rustled my jimmies. I hope the interior isn't messed up, otherwise I'm gonna be really pissed.

I just came to say I chuckled at your user name.

Carry on.

You left the top down when you pulled in? Do you have spare keys to put the top back up?

So why did you not put the top up when you left your car?

I knew he'd have to remove the back seat to a check the fuel senders and pump (that's where the fuel tank is) so I left it down so he'd have easier access. But the top works and he has the keys, so I'm a bit puzzled he didn't put the roof up.

I knew he'd have to pull the back seats to get to the fuel tank, so I figured it would be a little easier for him. I have a spare key.

No harm no foul if it was an honest mistake and he completely forgot, though. The interior should be fine since the weather's been sublime.

He probably just forgot. I'd just leave it up from now on; not like it's impossible to put down.

1994 E36 325i manual. Spoiler alert: it was perfectly fine and I was being paranoid.

As a fellow convertible person I share your shudder. Did you get your car back yet?

Yeah! Aside from a layer of dust everything was OK. I did learn my car has the original fuel pump...from 1994.

Glad things worked out well, and all is ok.

Last year I replaced a Bosch on a 1991 model. Pretty good service for Oem. Take care.
